About Sekaijin
Our mission for expatriates worldwide
The meaning of Sekaijin
The word "Sekaijin" (世界人) comes from Japanese and literally means "citizen of the world". It is formed from "sekai" (世界), meaning "world", and "jin" (人), meaning "person".
This term embodies the idea of an individual who transcends cultural and national borders, embracing an open, curious, and global vision of the world. This is the philosophy that drives our community: connecting people abroad in a spirit of sharing, discovery, and humanity without borders.
Our beginnings
My name is Wecko, and I am an expatriate living in Pattaya, Thailand. For a long time, I had this dream: to live in Asia, discover new cultures, and build a life elsewhere. But once abroad, you often realize how much the adventure can also mean loneliness.
It was in this context that the idea of Sekaijin was born.
I wanted to create a simple, warm space where expatriates can connect, help each other, share their experiences, and no longer feel alone. A place where bonds are formed beyond borders.
Our mission
At Sekaijin, our mission is simple: to bring expatriates together around values of sharing, ambition, and openness.
We believe that going abroad should never mean isolation. On the contrary, it is a unique opportunity to grow, open up to the world, and create strong bonds with those living the same adventure.
We want to build a dynamic community of expats across the globe, who share the desire to fully integrate into their host country while staying connected to their roots.
Inform, inspire, and connect: that is our commitment. Through local news, personal blogs, sincere and caring exchanges, Sekaijin becomes the landmark that many were missing.
Our community today
What started as just an idea has become a reality: Sekaijin now brings together dozens of expatriates living in Thailand with the same goal — to no longer be alone abroad.
Our community grows every day. Diverse profiles join us: entrepreneurs, students, creatives, families, adventurers... all driven by the desire to integrate, share, and move forward together.
On the site, some share their journey, others give advice, share tips, or simply chat. Bonds are formed, projects are born, meetings change lives.
Sekaijin grows with you — and thanks to you. As the community extends to other countries, our mission remains the same: to make you feel at home, anywhere in the world.
