Thailand's premium visa: for those who want total comfort
Tired of immigration paperwork, queues at Chaeng Wattana, and visa extensions every 90 days? The Thailand Privilege (formerly Thailand Elite) is the high-end solution: you pay, and everything is managed for you. No monthly income requirements, no work permit needed to stay, no stressful reporting.
But this comfort comes at a price — a significant price. The Thailand Elite is not for everyone, and it has its own limitations. We'll explain everything, without the sales pitch.
What exactly is the Thailand Elite?
The Thailand Privilege Card (its official name since 2023) is a long-term residence program created by the Thai government in 2003. It is managed by Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
In exchange for a substantial fee, you get:
- A visa for 5 to 20 years depending on the chosen package
- VIP services (airport fast-track, transfers, concierge)
- Total administrative peace of mind — no annual financial justifications
The different packages in 2026
The program has been restructured in recent years. Here are the main options:

The concrete advantages
Simplified immigration
This is the number one advantage. With the Thailand Elite:
- No financial proof: no need for 400,000 or 800,000 THB in a bank account
- No annual extension: your visa is valid for the entire duration of the program
- Fast-track immigration: an agent waits for you at the airport and takes you through a dedicated lane. You avoid the queues at Suvarnabhumi.
- 90-day reporting: still mandatory, but the concierge service can take care of it for you
Airport transfers
Depending on the package, you are entitled to limousine transfers between the airport and your home. This is particularly appreciated when you arrive tired from a long flight and don't feel like negotiating with a taxi.
Concierge
The concierge service can help you with:
- Opening a bank account
- Obtaining a driver's license
- Various administrative procedures
- Reservations (hotels, restaurants, golf)
Expat tip: the quality of the concierge service varies. It's okay for basic procedures, but don't expect a 5-star concierge who anticipates your every need. It's a useful service, not a personal butler.
What the Thailand Elite does NOT give you
It's important to understand this before investing:
- No right to work: the Thailand Elite does not give any work permit. You cannot work in Thailand with this visa, even as a freelancer (in theory).
- No automatic tax residency: you still have to manage your tax situation (see taxation section)
- No facilitated real estate ownership: the rules for real estate purchases for foreigners remain the same
- No citizenship: even after 20 years, the Thailand Elite does not lead to Thai nationality
- No health coverage: you must take out your own health insurance
90-day reporting: even the Elite can't escape it
Even with an Elite visa, you must do the 90-day reporting with immigration. This is an obligation for all long-term visa holders in Thailand, without exception.
The good news: the Thailand Privilege concierge service can take care of it for you. You send them the documents, they do the procedure. This is one of the most appreciated services by members.
